THE FFF STRAT - GUITAR & TUNING

Vega loves Strats and his trademark is the so called "FFF Tuning" of his favorite Stratocaster- the "FFF", aka "SX6" aka "616465" aka "666" ^^(basically it's a customized American Standard Strat:). Vega: "The FFF is such a powerful instrument. There's so many things you can do in this tuning. Stones, Zeppelin, Blues and Slide guitar stuff in open G and then you got the low C for all the heavy stuff. The pickups I chose for this guitar -after some experimenting- are just perfect in combination with a hi gain amp. They never get muddy, have the STRAT bite and STRAT tone that I love so much (Vega uses Fender Custom Shop and DiMarzio pickups). This guitar portrays Vintage grace & Metal attitude, all at once. I myself am discovering new things to do on it all the time; and am still practicing to hopefully be as free (playing leads&chords) on it, as I am on a guitar in standard tuning. I love it, it's great:)"
The "FFF Tuning" is a mix between Open G and Drop C Tunings ("Vintage Grace with a Metal attitude", the low .56 gauge (C) string almost making the Stratocaster sound like a 7-string guitar) and despite the unusual tuning, Patrick does not shy away from playing all his leads on it. The FFF Strat is featured on some songs on "Freefall Faith Firestorm", most songs on "8 Bullets", all songs on "ANIMA' and on the latest single release "Song of Ease" (2011, FFF Music). |
